Did you get a message in your admin dashboard saying that your license has been deactivated? This article explains what's going on and how to resolve it.
What happens if my license is deactivated?
You will no longer be able to use the plugin on the website where this license was registered. The plugin modules won't be visible and you won't receive version updates on that site. Other sites where the same license is active (Freemius multi-site tiers) are not affected.
What are the reasons for a license to be deactivated?
1. You manually deregistered the license
You can deactivate the license yourself from the plugin's admin area. Direct customers can also deactivate from their Freemius account. Either action deactivates the license on the corresponding website only.
2. You activated/deactivated the license too many times in a short period
This can temporarily lock the license to prevent abuse.
-
Direct customers (Freemius): each tier allows activation on the corresponding number of sites (1, 5, 25, or Unlimited). Rapid cycling beyond that may trigger a temporary lock.
- CodeCanyon customers: a license unlocks the plugin on a single End Product (one production site plus its staging and localhost environments).
3. Domain or server migration
A license can deactivate automatically when:
- You copy your database from one server to another.
- Multiple domains point to the same WordPress installation.
- You change the domain of your WordPress installation.
Most of these are resolved by deactivating the license on the old site first. If you no longer have access to the old dashboard, contact our support and we'll sort it out.
4. Multiple domains pointing to one WordPress installation (multilingual sites)
Contact our support — we'll look into your setup and find the right configuration.
5. The license was revoked due to a terms violation
A license can be revoked if it's used in violation of its terms — for example, a Standard or Regular license used on a commercial site. If your license is revoked, you'll see this message when trying to reactivate.
